Trendiest Workouts

Like food, fashion, and films, workout routines trend in and out it seems like every few months.  And when a celebrity is caught sweatin’ to one, it’s sure to become the biggest rage.  So what are the popular ones right now?

1.The Bar Method

The Bar Method is based on, you guessed it, dance.  It has its roots in ballet, yoga, and pilates, and involves holding long muscular contractions.   Think squeezing your behind for 3 minutes or holding your leg in the air for 2 minutes.  The results are said to lean you out and tone your body.  And it’s incredibly popular right now.

Price: $$$ Can be very pricey at $25 a session or a month unlimited for $200.

2. P90X

This workout is a series of DVD’s you do in your own home.  The kit includes a varied range of workouts from Plyometrics to Yoga to Core.  You get on a plan that has you working out 6 days a week for 12 weeks.  The results tend to be across the board pretty phenomenal. But you have to have a lot of self- discipline to keep up with the routine.  Plus they highly recommend a series of supplements that the makers sell.

Price: $ The whole set up is around $150.  Just a one-time fee.

3. Bikram Yoga

Yoga in of itself is hard.  Anyone who says it isn’t hasn’t tried it.  It’s a series of poses you hold for minutes at a time.  Bikram yoga is doing 90 minutes of yoga while cranking up the heat to 105 degrees and adding 40% humidity. Ouch. It’s not for the weak of heart, or less in shape folks.  I highly recommend doing regular yoga a bit before jumping into hot yoga. But once you do, many people do not stop.

Price: $$ You can find month unlimited deals at studios across the country.

4. Zumba

Zumba is the Latin dancing sensation sweeping the nation.  Ok, maybe not that hokey- but you basically dance in a class to hip gyrating salsa music.  It’s supposed to be fun and exhilarating and you forget that you are burning major calories. Plus they offer classes for every level of health, whether you are a young thing with energy to burn or a gracefully aging senior.

Price: $$ A lot of gyms have Zumba classes included in their membership.

Whatever exercise you do is great.  It boosts your metabolism, ups self-esteem and is fantastic for your health.  And you can’t go wrong with any of these routines.
